Thanksgiving 2009

As predicted, Thanksgiving 2009 was a wonderful time spent with family and friends.  We posed for our annual pre-dinner photo!  Lunch ran about an hour behind schedule, but with just the five of us, it didn't matter and we had a hilarious time trying to prepare everything.  The turkey had a different spiced rub on it this year - excellent choice by my uncle!  And it did indeed have wings this year, so watching them prepare the bird was a bit more of a teaching moment than the turkey we had in 2008!

We had our fruit, pastries, and coffee Thanksgiving morning.  However, I was threatened on my life to not post any photos of us at the breakfast table since everyone was still in pajama gear, so here is a photo of just the table!  Several hands of New Orleans shuffle cards were played by all.  And this year my brother and I walked my uncle's boxers down to the river and walked around downtown Cairo.  There are so many memories of my family in this town.  We walked past the building named after my Granddad during his tenure as Housing Authority Chairman, the church where my great-grandparents attended, and my brother even spotted our old family organ for sale in the front window of an antique shop.

One lesson I've learned this past calendar year is nothing ever stays the same.  Life moves us forward whether we want it to or not.  And instead of holding onto the past and what was or what we wish would have been, we simply have to welcome the experiences life brings us, both good and bad, learn from them, and keep moving forward.  Here's hoping your Thanksgiving 2009 was an enjoyable one and I wish you a wonderful holiday season as we round the corner to Christmas!
